Balbirnie is top wedding hotel again

balbirnie House in Markinch has once again been named as The Scottish Wedding Hotel Of The Year.

The hotel received the accolade at the Scottish Hotel Awards, a glittering ceremony in the grand ballroom of the Thistle Glasgow in front of 500 guests. Incredibly, it is the sixth time in the last eight years that the Balbirnie has won this prestigious award.

Gaynor Russell, who has been heading up the hotel’s wedding planning department and runs the hotel with her husband Nicholas, says that there are a number of factors that makes Balbirnie such a success.

“First and foremost we have a tremendous team,” she said. “Externally Balbirnie has a truly stunning location and magnificent grounds, and internally we have a blend of lived-in country vintage and contemporary chic, which is proving simply irresistible to the brides and grooms of tomorrow.

“Balbirnie has a jaw-dropping accumulated history of special events which have taken place here.

“In this recessionary climate we are particularly focused on offering truly wonderful accessible packaged pricing, with really extreme value, albeit with a great proportion of our brides coming from London we still see some occasions which do not have a particularly restricted budget.”

The award has been described as “The flagship awards for the Scottish hotel industry” by First Minister Alex Salmond and having been named Scotland’s top wedding venue so many times the hotel is determined to keep up its high standards.

Gaynor said: “This is straightforward - for anyone wishing a large wedding, Balbirnie House is without doubt now recognised as Scotland’s party central!”

Kirsty Balbirnie, the hotel’s special events co-ordinator said: “As a family-run hotel, we are truly honoured to have received the award for Scottish Wedding Hotel of the Year.

“Not only that, but also our chef Mark Lindsay won the award for Executive Chef of The Year.

“We have people coming from all over the country to have their weddings here and we take the current economic climate into consideration when we prepare our wedding packages. We work hard to make it a special day for our customers.

“Some of the brides tell us that they’ve been here before and always wanted to have their wedding here.

“Winning the award again was just amazing. All of us are on a high at the moment!”
