LEVENMOUTH looks like adding some mouth-watering aromas to the barbecue season this year.

Stuart’s of Buckhaven and neighbour W. F. Stark, both established prizewinners in their butchery and bakery trades, have been up among the awards again.

The two businesses got off to a frying start at a major competition to land a number of gold and silver awards.

They were among the craft butchers throughout Scotland who are now hoping for a great barbecue summer after dozens of novel ideas were identified in a recent evaluation of ‘Speciality Sausages and Speciality Burgers’ held at Perth College recently.

Stuart’s and Stark’s both had awards for their sizzlers with ingredients including cheese, onion, apple and black pudding providing the inspiration for new products.

The event, organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders and sponsored by the Dalesman Group, attracted an entry of almost 250 products.

Judges were drawn from the meat industry and interested sausage and burger aficionados.

The buttered roll of honour was:

Speciality sausage

Gold award: Stark’s – Beef, Cheese & Onion.

Silver awards: Stark’s – Pork Cheese & Chive; Beef & Black Pudding; Stuart’s – Buckhaven Breakfast Sausage

Speciality burger

Gold awards: Stark’s – Minute Steak Burger; Beef with Black Pudding; Stuart’s, – Steak, Pork & Apple Burger.

Silver award: Stuart’s – Steak, Chilli & Cheese.
