Kirkcaldy Bakery in takeover

Kingdom Bakers takeover

A KIRKCALDY bakery which closed down at the start of the year has been taken over, although mystery surrounds the new owners.

Kingdom Bakers, which was based in the Mitchelston Industrial Estate, closed down in January due to serious financial problems with the loss of 135 jobs. Receivers RSM Tenon were called in and began to look for a new buyer and now the premises has been taken over by St Andrews Bakers, who registered with Companies House at the beginning of last month.

However, it remains unclear when the firm is to begin operations or how many staff it will be taking on. A spokesman for Fife Council confirmed that it had not heard anything official regarding the takeover of the company.

Kingdom Bakers had been in operation for 28 years and was a major supplier to shops and supermarkets in Fife.
