Labour’s Claire Baker has welcomed an assurance from Co-op that post offices will be retained in six David Sands stores bought by the company recently.
The MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife sought clarity from both David Sands and the Co-operative Group following the takeover.
Claire Baker, Labour MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife said: “I’m relieved to have confirmation that post offices currently serving six communities in Fife will be retained following Co-op’s takeover of David Sands stores.
“David Sands has provided a great service for the people of Fife for many years and the Co-op is also a great company with a strong reputation, but my immediate concern following the announcement of a takeover was whether post offices were to be retained in stores in Fife.
“Post offices at convenience stores in Kelty, Cardenden, Auchtermuchty, Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline provide a vital service and many in these communites depend on it, so I’m pleased that Co-op has offered assurances that they will continue to operate.”
A Co-operative Group spokesperson said: “Post Offices in David Sands stores are part of the acquisition, which is subject to an OFT review. Until the review and transaction is complete it would be inappropriate to comment further, although our intention is to continue to operate the Post Offices.”
