THE long-awaited provision of a major town centre store for Glenrothes is expected to take a significant step forward.

Tesco corporate affairs manager, Gloria Coates, told North Glenrothes Community Council that the company was ready to submit its planning application to Fife Council, seeking the go-ahead to begin work on the 95,000 square feet store at Falkland Gate.

It is believed that the retail giant will submit separate applications for associated car parking, one of which may involve a site near Jubilee Grove sheltered housing complex - which proved controversial when it was previously mooted - but which would be accessed from Leslie Road.

Tesco has been been earmarked as the preferred bidder for the site by Kingdom Centre owners CISW-AXA, but Sainsbury’s has recently confirmed it is still interested in the development.
