Top eatery goes on the market


THE award-winning The Cellar restaurant in Anstruther has been put up for sale with a price tag of three quarters of a million pounds.

Situated in a grade C listed building, just 100 yards from the harbour, the restaurant, which has been run by Peter Jukes (62) for 29 years, has built up a reputation both locally and internationally.

Focusing on seafood and Scottish produce, The Cellar has gathered a number of awards. These include three rosettes from the AA Guide in the past 16 years, it has featured in the Good Food Guide for over 25 years as one of its top 60 UK restaurants, and has won both Restaurant Of The Year and Seafood Restaurant Of The Year national awards.

After the sale was announced Mr Jukes spoke to the Mail to say his decision to sell came about after deciding to semi-retire and enjoy the good things in life.

He continued: “This is my 30th year and the time has come to move on.

“I started thinking about it in the summer. I will be sorry to see it go but I have got a son, four daughters and a wife and it will be nice to do something less demanding while I still can.

“The reputation it has is incredible and I am very proud of the recognition the independent food guides have bestowed on the restaurant.

“It has been satisfying to be able, even when after a 15-hour day, to sit down and have a chat with some wonderful, wonderful people from around the world. The feedback has made it all worth it.”

The schedule for the sale, which is being handled by estate agents Murray Donald Drummond Cook LLP, adds the restaurant is capable of doing 40 covers, comes with a garden and the price tag includes three adaptable owner’s flats.
