The BID St Andrews team has already launched a new service for businesses in the town.
Under the project name StAndrews4You, the service is helping to deliver new digital and social media communications linking businesses and customers – and it is already reaching thousands of people every day.
The project got off the ground just before Christmas, and now StAndrews4You has launched a comprehensive website that includes a free directory for businesses in the town, information on current news and events, and integrated with the website is the daily management of social media.
The combined social audience now exceeds 800 people – and the activity being delivered is reaching more than 3000 people every day.
BID chairman Ken Dalton said: “Many towns and cities have BIDs – and in St Andrews a team of volunteers in the business community is exploring ways in which businesses can best help each other to improve the town.
“The StAndrews4You SOCIALiSTREET initiative is just one area, but it is already making a positive difference to the way local businesses communicate with each other and with their customers.”
Mr Dalton added: “The project’s real benefit is in collecting information from the businesses.
“This is done ‘face to face’ – via the service’s ‘Brand Maker’ who spends time with selected businesses each week.”
In St Andrews, the Brand Maker is Susan Baldwin.
The SOCIALiSTREET initiative is just one of several being tested by towns and cities across Scotland and has already proved successful in Perth and Kirkcaldy.
Viv Collie, BID co-ordinator, said: “We are keen to see the service develop ahead of the planned BID ballot this autumn.”
BID St Andrews is now in its consultation stage.
