Campaign to recruit teen foster carers

The campaign, being run by Foster Care Associates (FCA) Scotland – which will appear across social media channels in Fife throughout the summer – portrays how every teenager has a story to tell.

This is characterised in the campaign by using emoji icon’s to depict significant events in a teen’s life, and how becoming a foster carer could help to rewrite a teenagers story for the better.

Jo Derrick, director of FCA Scotland, said: “We’re looking for carers who can build and maintain a meaningful and enduring relationship with young people, and understand the impact of a young person’s past experiences, and how that affects their behaviour. There is an often a misconception that teenagers can be a handful, however the behaviour of each individual has been influenced by their past, and usually occurs when the young person feels unsure or unsafe. We need carers to help them develop positive relationships and provide them with a sense of belonging.”

Nicola and Ernie Brooksbank from Kirkcaldy in Fife have been foster carers with Foster Care Associates Scotland (FCA) for more than 10 years, during which time they’ve looked after many teenagers.
