Car in sea at Burntisland

Bathers at a Burntisland beach were left bemused when they heard a motor revving and watched as a car ended up in the water.

The vehicle slipped into the waves just in front of the Beacon Leisure Centre around 3.40pm. on Thursday.

A shocked onlooker said: “I had taken my children down to the beach for a day out.

“We thought a speed boat was being launched as we heard an engine being revved then the next thing the car was in the water.

“The lifeguards and public managed to get the occupants of the car out and, as far as I’m aware, they are all okay. The emergency services and Coastguard then arrived on the scene.”

A police spokesman confirmed that a car had been reported in the water around 3.40pm and all occupants of the car were able to get out safely with no injuries.”
