Card skimming device found in St Andrews

Police in north east Fife are appealing for witnesses and urging the public to remain vigilant after a card-skimming device was found on a cash machine in St Andrews.

A member of public made the discovery at around 6pm on Friday, April 29 when they looked to use the Cash Line ATM on Market Street.

Local officers are now conducting inquiries to trace those responsible and reminding cash machine users to look carefully for any suspicious items when they are making a transaction.

Sergeant Colette Mather from Cupar Police Station said: “On this occasion the member of the public was quick to notice the device and was thankfully not defrauded of any cash.

“Anyone with information that can help us identify who installed this item on the ATM should contact police immediately.

“Our communities should also keep a close eye out for similar devices on cash machines and if they believe an ATM has been tampered with, do not use it and report the matter to us.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or make an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
