The Cavaleri String Quartet will open the St Andrews Concert Series of seven recitals for the St Andrews Music Club, in association with the University Music Centre.
The international prize-winning quartet of Martyn Jackson and Ciaran McCabe (violins), Ann Beilby (viola) and Rowena Calvert (cello) will perform in the Younger Hall on Thursday, September 25, at 7.30pm.
The programme for the evening is Mozart’s Quartet No. 19 in C major (K465) ‘Dissonance’; Shostakovich’s Quartet No. 8 in C minor (Op.110); and Smetana’s Quartet No. 1 in E minor ‘From My Life’.
Since its formation in 2008, Cavaleri has gained a reputation as one of the leading European string quartets, winning numerous awards at international events.
They have just completed three years as the ‘Quartet in Residence’ at Oxford University and are ambassadors for the European String Teachers’ Association.
Concerts for the full season are as follows (all Thursday, 7.30 pm): October 16 – Murray McLachlan (piano); November 6 – Robin Michael (cello) and Daniel Tong (piano); February 12 – Maggini Quartet; March 12 – Chloë Hanslip (violin) and Danny Driver (piano); April 9 – Fitzwilliam String Quartet; and May 7 – Katherine Bryan (flute) and Scott Mitchell (piano).
