Officers believe that the male shown in the image may be able to assist them with their enquiries, and ask that any members of the public who recognise him come forward.

He is described as white, in his 20s, around 5ft 11in tall, slim to medium build and has very short fair hair as well as facial hair.

At the time of the attack, he was wearing a red-coloured long-sleeved top with denim jeans and light-coloured footwear.

He was last seen walking on Hunter Street heading in the direction of St Brycedale Road.

Detective Sergeant Craig Fraser, who is based at Kirkcaldy police station, said: “This was a violent and unprovoked attack that left a man with serious facial injuries.

“I would ask anyone who was on a night out in Kirkcaldy on January 3 to take a good look at the image and to get in touch with police immediately if you recognise this individual.”

Anyone who witnessed this incident or who has information that might assist with the ongoing investigation is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
