Cemetery vandalism - 15-year-old charged

A 15-year-old youth has been charged with vandalism and theft from Leslie cemetery.

Vases and a granite memorial were stolen from the Kinross Road grounds and a headstone damaged between February 3 and 24.

following an investigation by officers a youth was arrested and charged with various offences.

Glenrothes Community Sergeant Kenny Greig, said: “In every case of vandalism there is a victim.

“When you look at vandalism as a whole, the crime affects local quality of life and there is a significant cost to individuals, businesses and public services.

“This crime shows an utter disregard for the feelings of the family concerned and has caused outrage in the community.

“We want to make sure that persons ruining the quality of life in our area are brought to justice.

“I would also like to thank the public for their assistance in providing us with the information that helped us to trace this suspect.”
