The practice, which had to be taken over by the NHS last year, ceased to exist on Monday, as the Airlie Practice – formally based in Leven Health Centre – took over. The transfer will be complete on May 9.

Patients registered at the practice will now be transferred to the Airlie books. Its three GPs, Drs McQuitty, Mauritzen and Dakin, will also be joined by a new partner, Dr Thomson.

An NHS spokesman explained:“The Airlie Practice took over the responsibility of providing Primary Medical Services for the patients of the Cannons Surgery on May 1, 2016; this will be known as Airlie Medical Practice and will be based at the Cannons Surgery.”

The move means there are now just two practices based in the town centre health centre, McLaren & Partners and Page, McDonald and Stevenson.

“The space created by the Airlie Medical Practice vacating Leven Health Centre provides an excellent opportunity for the expansion of both local community-based services, and the practices continuing to operate there,” added the spokesman.
