A FIFE charity which offers opportunities for carers and volunteers to socialise has received a cash boost to the tune of £10,000.

Fife Volunteers’ Social Group (FVSG) has been granted the sum by the Lottery Awards for All scheme.

The money will be used to help the charity host its next event in Kirkcaldy later this month, as well as buying equipment to help fully establish the group.

The organisation has been running for the last three years, however the committee are in the process of expanding to ensure the group covers the whole of the Kingdom.

FVSG raises funds to give volunteers and carers a night out two or three times a year.

And £3000 of the funding will go towards the next event - a 1950s Coronation Celebration Special - which takes place at The Abbey, Kirkcaldy on May 25.

Polly Wilson, chairman of FVSG, explained: “The idea is we’re having a 1950s fun night, the week before the 60th anniversary of the Coronation.

“We’ve a range of things planned for the evening and we want people, if they wish, to come in 1950s or royal clothes.

“There will be prizes for the best dressed royal and the best dressed 50s outfit.”

As well as a full buffet supper, entertainment will be provided by Clark Stewart and comedy and musical ensemble, Stagestruck.

There will also be a version of ‘Take Your Pick’.

“It’s really an evening of nostalgia and a chance for everyone to get together and have fun, ” continued Polly.

Previous events have included murder mystery nights.

FVSG holds such events for anyone who volunteers for any organisation and for unpaid carers. Carers allowance does not count as payment. Former carers are also welcome.

The other £7000 from the Lottery funding will be used to purchase computer equipment and to help fully establish the group Fife wide.

Polly added: “We’re absolutely over the moon.

“We’re hopeful it will help us get off the ground and enable us to reach people across the whole of Fife, which we’ve struggled to do in the past.”
