THE chief executive of Fife Council, Ronnie Hinds, has announced his intention to retire in 2013, subject to approval by councillors in January.

Mr Hinds has given his notice after seven years in the post.

He said: “Having led the organisation through the delivery of an ambitious council plan and overseen the preparation of a new plan that will underpin the policy priorities of the new council, I believe this would be the right time to hand over to a new chief executive.

“On a personal level, I feel it is time to move on and pursue other interests.

“I wish to record my gratitude to the council for affording me the privilege of fulfilling this role.”

The chief executive must formally request retirement and this request will be discussed by executive committee councillors at their meeting on January 15.

If approved, a recruitment process is likely to begin and Mr Hinds plans to leave the organisation in the summer.

Mr Hinds joined Fife Council as chief executive in 2006, from his post as head of financial services at the City of Edinburgh Council. Previously, he was controller of audit with Audit Scotland.
