Christmas comes early for Fife groups

Briggs Marine presented Burntisland Primary School, the Cottage Family Centre and the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) with cheques at the school’s Christmas carol concert on Tuesday.

During 2016 it has given over £85,000 in funding and sponsorship to various causes, including sponsoring local sports teams and donations to Fife foodbanks.

The latest donations to its charity partners Burntisland Primary School, CHAS and The Cottage Family Centre were warmly welcomed by the recipients.

Burntisland Primary School has used its annual donation to employ a family support worker and early years officer for 10 hours a week. The impact of this appointment has been invaluable for a number of families across

Burntisland.

Emma Clunie, depute head teacher, said: “The continued support from Briggs means that the school can keep the ongoing appointment of the support worker for another session.

“We can also continue family programmes over the summer holidays, introduce a parents’ cooking group, a Dads’ sports group and gardening group and help fund the P7 residential experience.”

CHAS opened Rachel House, Scotland’s first children’s hospice in Kinross in 1996 providing accommodation for up to eight families and a homecare service to support over 400 families in their own homes.

The Cottage Family Centre was established in 1987 to support vulnerable families in the Kirkcaldy area.

Pauline Buchan, service manager at the centre said; “We are delighted to receive this contribution from Briggs Marine which will be used to provide food and other basic essentials to some of the most vulnerable children and families in Kirkcaldy and the surrounding areas over the Christmas period when many services are closed or restricted.”
