Closing doors: Now fish shop announces decision to close in Kirkcaldy

The Anstruther Fish Shop, based in the Postings Shopping Centre, will close its doors on June 6.

George Allan, owner of shop blamed the closure of Tesco and the relocation of the Post Office to the High Street for his decision.

“There was a 60 per cent decrease in footfall in The Postings after Tesco closed. I was losing about £1000 a week,” he said.

“Now that’s dropped by a further 20 per cent with the Post Office moving. I’ve experienced a disastrous decline in customers and can no longer maintain a profitable business.”

George said he was “gutted” to be closing.

“I’ve been here for 10 years. When I bought the premises my plan was to sell up and retire this year when I turn 70.

“I’d thought I’d get around £35,000 for it which would have made for a nice little pension nest egg. Now I won’t get anything.”
