Community calls for increased CCTV in Glenrothes street

A spokesman for Auchmuty Tenants and Residents Association said it will be requesting that a second camera from the three currently in operating within the precinct be used in a bid to deter further problems.

The request follows a string of serious incidents, including an attempted murder and a stabbing, in recent months.

However, Glenrothes Inspector Joanne McEwan said anti-social behaviour and violence had not increased in Malcolm Road and the surrounding area.

“The Glenrothes Central area in general has not seen any deterioration in anti-social behaviour or minor violent crime over the last three years,” said Inspector McEwan.

“There was a very serious incident whereby a man and woman were the subject of an attack involving weapons and I understand that this will of course be a cause of concern.

“I would once again like to reassure the local community that the incident was not a random attack and that it should not provoke undue concern amongst the wider community.

“The accused in this case were all reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“In addition, we regularly deploy our mobile CCTV van in the area to enhance the coverage provided by re-deployable CCTV cameras.

“In the last fortnight we have deployed an additional CCTV camera covering the area of Malcolm Road.

“All of these actions together demonstrate our ongoing commitment to tackling violent crime and anti-social behaviour.”
