Concerns over Crail halls

Reacting to Fife Council’s Review of Integrated Community Facilities, the community council was dismayed to find no ‘core’ facilities – that is, facilities not suitable for disposal – had been identified in Crail, meaning that questions marks now hang over both the Town and Community Halls.

There is to be a consultation process and it is believed Fife Council is planning a drop-in session to be held on June 6 in the Town Hall.

However, the community council is frustrated in efforts to find out more about the halls, such as upkeep and income.

“The Community Hall is owned by Fife Council and we do not have information on income generation and turnover, etc,” a report from the community council states.

“It is however a building with considerable potential, including no doubt the potential for housing development.”

It added: “The Town Hall is a Common Good property, and is an iconic symbol of Crail – it is fair to assume that its disposal to a private body would be intolerable to the community as a whole.”

As it felt it had been thwarted in its efforts to get information from the Council, the community council is planning to carry out its own consultation process “to ensure that the views of our community are properly represented”.
