Childhood sweethearts, who met at Auchmuty High, certainly had the school to thank for helping to make their big day one to remember.

For just about everyone attending the new Mr and Mrs Brown’s wedding day had a connection with the school.

From the photographer to the usher, the bridesmaids, best man, guests and even the brides mother, they had all attended Auchmuty at one time or other.

Former head boy Andrew Brown and his bride Nicola Thomson, a former deputy head girl, tied the knot earlier this month in Markinch and admitted the marriage had a lot to do with the school.

And the couple were delighted to have attending their wedding Auchmuty teacher Muriel Stenhouse who has a close connection to both Nicola and Andrew.

As well as teaching both pupils, Nicola was once a member of the Girl Guides run by Mrs Stenhouse and all three attended Glenrothes Baptist Church.

“Yes, you could say the school has had a bigger part to play in our lives that would normally be expected,” Nicola told the Gazette.

“It took a while for us to get together but we did in the end and part of that is down to my friend Rachel, who played matchmaker and just happened to be involved in the wedding too - as our official photographer.”

The newly-weds have just come back from a honeymoon spent at Lake Garda in Italy, but it’s back to reality with Andrew having just graduated starting his new job as a doctor at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

“Back to earth with a bump that’s for sure but thanks to the school in its own special way, we have a lot to look forward to and we can’t thank everyone enough,” added Nicola.
