Creativity will be showcased in Fife for Voluntary Arts Week

Fifers are being invited to embrace the feelgood power of creativity by taking part in Voluntary Arts Week.

A number of events are being held across the Kingdom as part of the national initiative which runs from May 6-15.

This year’s programme is made up of a number of a wide variety of national cultural events from knitting animals for Woollen Woods, craftbombing towns and villages to open theatre or choir rehearsals.

Across Fife various groups and venues have signed up, with locals being encouraged to ‘get inspired and get creative.’

Taking part so far are: Clear Buckhaven – Members will be taking part in ‘Blossom Day’ in Memorial Park on May 11, from 1.30 to 3pm. Activities include: planting up an edible bed and wild flower meadow, making prints of the plant shapes and coming up with ideas for a large wall mural.

Glenrothes Camera Club – Members have been photographing cultural groups from Glenrothes and the surrounding area for this special photography exhibition. From floral arts to martial arts, people are being invited to visit the empty shop unit opposite Rothes Halls to view the photographs and find out about the creative groups that meet locally. It will be open from May 6-15.

Glenrothes Knitting and Crochet Club is also taking part. It will be open on May 10 (from 7-9p.m) and May 11 and May 12 from 11am until 12.45p.m. Booking is required, please contact Jayne Murphy on 07722388124.

K107 FM – The Kirkcaldy-based radio station is holding an open day on May 7 from 11am to 3pm. Locals can meet the presenters and tour the studio of Fife’s only community radio station. People can also find out more about appearing on radio, contributing to programmes and the technical aspects.

Wemyss School of Needlework – Join Louise Foster from the Wemyss School of Needlework for a fabulous beginner’s workshop in Crewelwork Embroidery, which was most popular in 17th century Britain and the same technique used to create to the Bayeux Tapestry. It is taking place at St Andrew’s Museum on May 14 from 11am to 4pm.

Scottish Fisheries Museum – The Anstruther-based venue is holding a Medieval Muster on May 14 from 11am to 4pm, allowing people to find out about the Middle Ages through a range of characters.

Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum – The Dunfermline-based venue is offering a children’s magic show, science boffin workshops, making Victorian crafts and an exhibit of Victorian craft toys will be displayed on May 14 from 11.30am to 4pm.
