Jason Arshad today returned to work after yesterday morning’s robbery on Burntisland High Street, which saw the pair stamp on his face and body repeatedly before making off with £480.

Despite nursing a few cuts and bruises, Jason is back serving his loyal customers – many of whom have been popping in just to check he’s okay.

He told how the attack unfolded.

Jason said the two men initially came in before leaving and returning.

He said: "Apparently there were three of them. The third was stood outside, but the CCTV camera picked him up.

"They came in - I've served them before, even though they were wearing masks.

“They went round to get chocolate. I turned around and all I saw was this guy coming at me with a hammer.

"He came round the side of the counter, knocked me over and I went flying into the corner.

"I instinctively put my hand up, and knocked the hammer out of his hand.”

However, Jason said that the loss of the weapon did not deter the attackers.

"I was on the floor and he came with his foot, straight on my face, and he kept doing it.

"I said 'why are you doing this? I know who you are'.

"He kept saying I want your money, I want your money’.

The thieves took cash from the float, leaving some behind as they left in a hurry.

Jason added: "I had £500 there, he got away with £480 - he left £20 in his rush.

"By that time I was winded as he'd stamped on my chest. After he got the money he stamped on my face a good couple of times to make sure I didn't get up.

"By that time they'd legged it out the shop. I got up and pressed the panic button.”

Soon afterwards, one of Jason’s regular customers came in and helped him.

“I asked her to phone the police and so she did.

“Within five minutes they were here.”

Despite the attack, Jason is back again today.

He added: "Just a few cuts and bruises but apart from that I'm okay.”
