The Procurator Fiscal Depute told the court the cost of the theft was £60 and it had not been recovered.

On the second charge she said that on the day in question witnesses had called an ambulance after the accused was found unresponsive.

She said: “Police officers attended shortly afterwards and found the accused to be under the influence of drugs. An ambulance was called.

"He became responsive and directed his anger towards the person who had called the ambulance. He was taken to the police station but shortly afterwards it was decided he should be taken to Victoria Hospital due to the way he had presented.

His defence agent told the court his client has a history of drug use and has a number of health issues, suffering memory loss as well as seizures. He said his recollection of the incident is very hazy.

He said he is now back living with his mother who is helping him to sort out his life.

Sheriff Gilchrist deferred sentence for three months and placed him on bail.
