Burntisland car crash: Pair caught by police and hit with coronavirus fine after helicopter search

Two occupants of a car which crashed in Fife and sparked a police helicopter search have been hit with a coronavirus-related fine.

The incident happened at around 6.30pm last night when a vehicle went down an embankment near the Quarry Road crossroads between Burntisland and Cowdenbeath.

A police helicopter was deployed to assist with the search, hovering over Burntisland for a time last night.

Police have now confirmed that two men were traced and that a fixed penalty notice had been issued.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.30 pm on Tuesday, 22 December, 2020, police were informed of a vehicle having crashed down an embankment on the B9157 from the A909 road at Aberdour.

“The driver and passenger left the scene, but were traced by officers a short time later. Neither had any serious injuries. Both men, aged 35 and 40, were issued Fixed Penalty Notices in connection with breaches under the coronavirus legislation."
