However since then the community has come together to help raise over £700 for the five charities which would have received donations from the collection tins that were stolen.

The owners of the fish shop were “absolutely devastated” that the hardworkign charities they support will not receive the money that was due them.

So a crowdfunding page was set up to help make up the shortfall, with the cash being shared between the RNLI, Burntisland Foodbank, Floral Action Burntisland, the Salvation Army and The Fishermen’s Mission.

The page’s target of £500 has been smashed with donations currently more than £700.

The fundraising page pays tribute to all those in the Burntisland community. It says: “We have been overwhelmed by the support from our amazing community over the past couple of days, we can’t thank you enough.”

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed officers received reports of a break-in at premises on Burntisland High Street at around 7am on Wednesday, June 24 and that a 41-year-old man was arrested and charge in connection with the incident.

He was due to appear in court last Thursday.
