Domestic abuser beat partner then urinated on photo of dead mother

The culprit Sean McMillan (38) of Den Walk, Buckhaven, is now behind bars after appearing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on May 25, at Shakespeare Avenue, Buckhaven, he assaulted his partner by seizing her by the hair, pulling her to the ground, sitting astride her, punched her on the head, seized her by the throat and compressed her breathing, all to her injury.

He also uttered abusive remarks, broke a picture frame then spat on and urinated on the photo.

Depute fiscal Claire Bremner said the woman returned home at around 7pm after visiting her sister and she thought her partner looked like he had taken cannabis or valium.

McMillan told her he had taken £30 from her purse and she told him to give it back.

He then became aggressive and she asked him to leave as there were children in bed at the time.

He followed her then took hold of her by the hair saying: “You’re pushing your luck.”

He pulled her to the ground, sat astride her and punched her to the left eye.

He grabbed her throat with one hand and applied pressure, restricting her breathing.

She managed to break his grip and pushed him away. He then stood up and took a photo of her mum from the wall.

He punched the frame causing the glass to smash, then spat on the photo, ripped it up, threw it on the floor and urinated on it.

He continued to be abusive calling his partner several offensive names.

He threatened to “come after her” if she contacted the police.

She phoned her father who thought she sounded “terrified” and the police were called, added the depute.

The victim was found to have significant bruising to her eye and throat.

Defence solicitor Joe Mooney said his client was in full-time employment as a roofer and was now living with his mother. He was out of work at the time of the offences.

He had already taken part in domestic abuse groupwork programme following previous offending.

Sheriff Alastair Brown warned McMillan “a significant jail term” was a possibility. He called for reports and McMillan was remanded in custody until sentencing on March 25.
