Fife man fined for making threats, shouting homophobic remarks and assaulting a woman

A Kennoway man has been fined £300 for making threats, shouting homophobic remarks and assaulting a woman.

Neil Meldrum, of Langside Drive, appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

Meldrum, 49, admitted on August 7, 2020 at Kingsdale Gardens, Kennoway he shouted, swore, uttered threats and shouted homophobic remarks.

He further admitted that on the same date, in the same place he assaulted a woman by striking her face with a lit cigarette by throwing it at her.

The Procurator Fiscal Depute told the court the accused and the complainer’s children had been calling each other names at school which had resulted in messages exchanged between the adults.

She said: “The accused attended at the home of the complainer and stood in her garden shouting and swearing at her calling her a man. He threatened her and flipped a lit cigarette which hit her in the face.”

She said the accused continued shouting and making homophobic remarks. Police were called.

Meldrum was fined £150 on each charge.
