The Procurator Fiscal Depute said on one of the dates in question when the witness had received messages from the accused, she had contacted the police.

The Procurator Fiscal Depute said: “The police attended at the witnesses’ home and she showed the officers the screenshots of the messages she had received.

“The accused and the witness were in a relationship for 20 years which ended five years ago.”

Dale’s defence agent said his client was unhappy about not being able to see his child.

He said the accused and the witness had stayed on reasonable terms despite the recent issue over contact. He then asked if the court might consider imposing a financial penalty.

But after some consideration, Sheriff Gilchrist opted to defer sentence for six months until June 3 so the accused could be of good behaviour.
