She further admitted that on the same date at U Save in Rossend Place, Kinghorn; The Co-operative Group, 26 High Street, Kinghorn and elsewhere in Fife, she pretended to employees at these places that she was the lawful holder of a bank card which belonged to someone else and used it to pay for goods to the value of £94 by fraud.

The Procurator Fiscal Depute told the court that CCTV footage had captured the accused using the bank card at the relevant time at the relevant shops and that when interviewed by police the accused said her son had given her the card and that she was really sorry for using it.

Begg, who was representing herself, told Sheriff Thornton she had been going through a difficult period in her life: “I have done things I am not proud of but I have now sorted my life out.”

She apologised for her actions and added she would pay for the items she had stolen.
