Five arrested in Fife in lead up to lockdown easing

Fifteen people were fined in Fife and five arrested for breaking lockdown rules in the week leading up to lockdown restrictions being eased.

The latest figures on the use of emergency coronavirus powers have been issued by Police Scotland.

From May 21 to 27 – the day before the First Minister announced details of what restrictions would be eased – officers locally made three arrests of those failing to comply with government rules, and they issued 15 fixed penalty notices.

In the seven days prior to May 21 they had arrested five people and issued four fixed penalty notices.

Across the Kingdom according to the latest figures, 39 people dispersed after being “informed”, while a further 17 moved on after being “instructed” to do so by officers – that’s compared to 172 and 76 respectively during the previous week.

Throughout the lockdown Police Scotland have been thanking people living and working in Fife for their ongoing commitment to slowing the spread of Covid-19 by staying at home and sticking to physical distancing guidance.

They are continuing to ask people to follow the government’s guidance now there has been some easing of restrictions.
