Kirkcaldy man repeatedly threw a brick at town store window

James Doherty, of Alexandra Street, appeared from prison via video link at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
Doherty, 58, admitted on July 6, 2021 at Lidl, Esplanade, Kirkcaldy he recklessly destroyed property belonging to another by repeatedly throwing a brick towards a window there, damaging it.

Hide AdHis defence lawyer told the court Doherty had collected his benefits payment and ended up spending it all on alcohol and at the bookmakers.
His lawyer said: “He found himself without any cash so he committed this offence to be taken into custody so he would have a roof over his head and food. He deliberately did it to get arrested.”
Sheriff Shead admonished him on the charge but ordered him to pay £250 in compensation to Lidl to pay for the damage to the window.
