Kirkcaldy woman admitted assaulting police officer by spitting in his eyes

Caitlyn Meikle, of Alford Avenue, appeared before Sheriff Christopher Shead at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
Meikle, 18, admitted on September 6, 2020 at an address in Cluny Place, Glenrothes she assaulted a woman and punched her on the head while on bail.

Hide AdShe admitted on the same date at Glamis Centre, Glenrothes and Dunfermline Police Station she shouted, swore, repeatedly made threats of violence towards a police constable, made derogatory remarks to him and kicked the door of a police van.
She further admitted on the same date at Dunfermline Police Station she assaulted a police officer by spitting in his eyes while on bail.
The Procurator Fiscal Depute said: “The accused and the witness were drinking together and the accused who was becoming drunk fell asleep and when she woke up she was argumentative.
"For no reason, she punched the witness on the face. She was put out from the address and police were contacted.

Hide Ad"Officers carried out a search and she was traced at a local takeaway restaurant. She was taken to Dunfermline Police Station and was disruptive during the journey. She asked for a tissue and when the officer went to give her the tissue the accused spat saliva at the police officer which went into his eyes.
"He was taken to hospital and given medical advice.”
Meikle’s defence lawyer told the court his client had had a difficult upbringing and had been in and out of the care system. She had gone into homeless accommodation at the age of 16 and ended up taking drugs. Her lawyer said things had spiralled since then and that on the day in question, she had taken alcohol as well as crack cocaine, valium and other drugs. As a result she had no recollection of the offences.
Sheriff Shead said: “These offences, particularly the last one, are repellent. If you were older then custody would be inevitable but because of your age and the circumstances I am going to deal with this with a Community Payback Order.”
He sentenced her to 225 hours of unpaid work and placed her under supervision for two years.
