Man attacked with bat in Methil nursing home car park

The victim was attacked and repeatedly struck with a wooden weapon by Paul Bayne.

Bayne, 38, of Watson Avenue, St Andrews, who worked as a kitchen porter in the town, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on October 13 last year at Abbotsford Nursing Home, Laird Avenue, Methil, he assaulted Colin Reid by repeatedly striking him on the head and body with a wooden bat or similar implement, causing him to fall to the ground, pursued him and thereafter struck him on the head and body with the weapon to his injury.

A not guilty plea was accepted to a charge of conspiring with another man to assault Mr Reid and agreeing to carry out the assault for payment.

The court heard that the victim worked at the nursing home and the attack happened at the car park there.

Martin McGuire, defence solicitor, said that when his client was detained by police he made a full admission.

Sentence was deferred until November 30 for reports.

“The sole reason for the report is to consider whether you pose such a risk that post-release supervision should be imposed,” said Sheriff Charles Macnair.

Bail was refused and Bayne was remanded in custody until sentencing.
