A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the serious sexual assault of an 83-year-old woman.

The incident happened shortly after 5am on Thursday, June 25 within a property at Meldrum Court in Glenrothes.

Police had previously appealed for information from the public and urged local residents to ensure their doors and windows were locked at night.

Officers said the woman had not experienced any physical injuries during the incident, but was left extremely distressed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and the man is expected to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Wednesday, July 8.
