Man fined for having a Class A drug at Fife hospital

A man has been fined £300 for having a Class A drug in his possession while at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.

Andrew Terras, of Albany Street, Dunfermline was not in Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court when the case called before Sheriff Alistair Thornton.

Terras, 67, previously admitted that on March 13 this year at Victoria Hospital in Hayfield Road, Kirkcaldy he had a class A drug, diamorphine, in his possession, contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

The court heard Terras had been taken to hospital as a result of seizures, which he had been having frequently, and this was when the drug was discovered.

It also heard that he has a lot of physical ailments and poor mobility.

Sheriff Thornton said in light of the circumstances and due to the state of his health, he would deal with the case by way of a financial penalty and so he fined him £300.
