Man whose husky killed sheep admits '˜sheep worrying' charge

Steven Ingram (59) of Hill Crescent, Wormit, admitted a charge of worrying livestock at Dundee Sheriff Court over the April 3 incident.

The court was told Ingram had two huskies out with him - with one escaping from him and going into a field populated by a herd of sheep.

The dog chased the animals around the field, killing three during the rampage.

Fiscal depute Matthew Kerr told Dundee Sheriff Court: “About 11pm witnesses were on the A92 when they saw the dogs in the field worrying sheep.

“They observed the accused struggling to keep the dog under control and it continued to chase the sheep.

“There was one sheep lying on the ground and another badly wounded and running in blood.

“The accused was angry and became aggressive shouting and hitting the dog when he caught it.

“Due to his manner witnesses contacted the police.

“At that point witnesses contacted police.

“The witnesses noted the number plate and passed that on.

“The accused made contact with the farmer and paid him POUNDS 800 to the value of replacing the sheep.

“When he was spoken to by police the dog had got away from him.”

Ingram pleaded guilty on summary complaint to a charge of worrying sheep.

Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC deferred sentence until next month for Ingram to make a personal appearance in court.
