“Miss Lithgow began shouting and swearing at Mr Brennan, accusing him of having sex with this female.

“She started punching him to his face and the police were contacted. They arrived a very short time later and observed through the window the accused punching the witness Brennan on the face in the kitchen.”

Miss French said Mr Brennan had scratches and redness to the face, and Lithgow was arrested and charged.

The incident occurred on Friday, May 1.

Appearing in the dock at Falkirk Sheriff Court escorted by security guards, Lithgow, of Smeaton Gardens, Kirkcaldy, admitted assault to injury.

Kerr Sneddon, defending said: “My client was asleep at 2.00 am when there was a knock at the door and she overheard a female who is known in the area asking Mr Brennan for ‘pins’, which are syringes for drug use.

“My client took exception to the fact that Mr Brennan did not shut the door immediately on this person and tell her in no certain terms to go away.

“Mr Brennan instead was his usual very relaxed self and engaged in a conversation with her.

“My client took exception to that and got so angry she punched him in the face.”

Sheriff Simon Collins QC deferred sentence three months for Lithgow to be of good behaviour, and released her on bail to reappear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on August 7th.
