An investigation is ongoing, and officers are asking anyone with information to come forward and for van owners to take extra security measures with their vehicles.

Colin Robson, detective inspector at Fife CID, said: “There has been a rise in the number of these incidents and this is not just a local issue with similar crimes occurring all over the country.”

Discussing the suspicion that devices are being used that allow access without forced entry, he added: “we are aware that items of this nature exist and are being put to criminal use so we are working with other divisions across Police Scotland and associated partners in an effort to prevent these crimes occurring.”

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
