Park volunteers forced into rethink after vandals strike a fourth time

Vandals have struck for the fourth time at a Fife beauty spot leaving a trail of destruction which has forced volunteers to reconsider future improvements to the area.

Specially made bird boxes and feeders were once again ripped from trees and smashed in Riverside Park, Glenrothes, and a wildlife garden, replanted just a few months ago following a previous incident, was also damaged.

In separate incidents, two of the decorated totem poles, erected in the park in 2012, have also been damaged.

Volunteers from the Friends of Riverside Park group (FORP), which had the boxes made, say they have been left appalled and upset by the latest act of vandalism. They are to meet next to week to discuss whether or not to replace the items for a fifth time.

David Cooper, FORP member told the Gazette, said: “It’s deeply frustrating for all those who have spent their own time helping to improve the park, only to their efforts destroyed by a few mindless idiots.
