Police tackle Kirkcaldy disorder on horseback

Two officers on horseback arrived in the town yesterday afternoon from Edinburgh – and it later emerged that a meeting is being held locally next week to discuss the issue.

Community Sergeant Jimmy Adamson told the Fife Free Press that police had received a growing number of calls about youth disorder and anti-social conduct in the Birnam Road area.

They had requested extra resources to help tackle the issue – and the ‘cavalry’ unit was part of the response from colleagues in the capital.

Meanwhile, Kirkcaldy MSP David Torrance said concerned residents had also been in touch with him, and a midweek meeting had been organised.

“I understand a considerable number of youths have been causing significant anti-social behaviour issues on Birnam Road and the surrounding area in Kirkcaldy, and a number of residents have now been in contact with me regarding their concerns,” he said.

“I have raised this ongoing issue with local police and Fife Council’s Safer Streets Officers, and would welcome a meeting between all parties to address it.

“I have also asked if CCTV vans may be used along with an increased police presence to monitor the area and identify the culprits.”

Mr Torrance added: “I would strongly encourage all local residents who are concerned about this to attend the meeting at Eddy’s Bar on Wednesday evening at 6pm.

“I am hopeful this matter will be resolved quickly, as the community needs to be reassured that the situation is being dealt with as a priority.”
