Martin was given five years and seven months in prison, Walls received six years and Robertson was sentenced to six years eight months.

Detective Sergeant Craig Fraser of Kirkcaldy CID said: “As a result of this attack the victim sustained permanent injuries which will affect him for the rest of his life.

“This was a particularly violent attack and if it wasn’t for the first aid given to the victim by neighbours then I believe that he wouldn’t have survived.

“I hope the sentence the men received will give the victim some comfort allowing him to continue with his life.”
