Seescape on the town’s Wilson Avenue was attacked some time on Tuesday evening with staff discovering the damage as they arrived for work on Wednesday morning.

Carl Hodson, the charity’s CEO said that it was a regular event that they had to deal with.

“We tend to get vandalism every now and again. It tends to come in peaks and troughs.

“It’s really disappointing because most people around her in the local community know we’re a charitable organisation and every pound is a prisoner, especially at this time.

Carl says such instances of vandalism can be a blow to staff morale.

“It’s always disappointing when you turn up for work at the start of the day and you find something like this has happened.

“Obviously we need to keep the building secure because we have vulnerable people coming in and out.

“The staff here give 110 per cent commitment to their work. They’re doing it fore the community and when it comes back at you sometimes like that it is difficult.

“But then we have to balance that it could be people who are somewhat challenged who maybe don’t understand the decisions they are making when they are vandalising something.

“So we do weigh that up as well and we understand that it happens and that we are not the only organisation that it happens to.”

The incident was recorded on CCTV and has now been passed on to the police.

“It caught the people doing it and it has been shown to the police so we’ll leave it in their hands,” Carl said, “but the other side of it is that the police have got better things to do. It’s not good.

“Our team are working particularly hard to support the community just now. The people who are carrying out the vandalism, it could be a member of their family that needs our support going forward, or who are receiving it at the moment.

“I would just urge them to think about what they are doing.”
