A nursery worker is facing court accused of assaulting a toddler at a day care facility - allegedly holding him upside down by the feet, bursting blood vessels around his eyes.

Caroline Taylor faces further charges of assaulting a three-year-old by lifting him by his feet, carrying him across the room and dropping him on the floor.

A third charge alleges she “wilfully ill treated and emotionally abused” children in her care “in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering or injury to health”.

Prosecutors allege that she spoke to them in an inappropriate manner and threatened to physically abuse them if they did not behave.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at the Busy Bee Nursery in Tannage Close, Cupar, between November 1 2013 and February 26 2014.

Taylor (44) of Lorraine Drive, Cupar, did not appear at Dundee Sheriff Court to face the charges.

Sheriff Walter Mercer read a letter sent by Taylor in relation to the charge and decided to continue the case without plea for three weeks for her to appear personally in the dock.
