People in Cupar are being urged to support a fund-raising event to help a group of deaf people get the money they need for vital equipment.

Members of Cupar Hard of Hearing Group are just £400 short of the £3000 they need to buy a sound system they can use at their monthly meetings in the town’s Old Parish Centre.

They’re holding a coffee morning and exhibition at 10am in St John’s Hall, Bonnygate, on Saturday, at which they hope to achieve their target as well as raise awareness of the issues faced by people with hearing difficulties.

Stallholders will include the Fife Deaf Communication Service as well as the charities Hearing Link and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, represented by Cupar man Ken Scott and his hearing dog Spike.

A spokesperson for Cupar Hard of Hearing Group, said: “We were having to borrow a sound system from Kirkcaldy for our meetings, which meant that someone had to pick it up and take it back again.

“So we started fund raising to buy our own and have had donations from local businesses and organisations such as the Rotary Club.”
