Community activists are to make what could be a last-ditch bid to save the under threat out-of-hours hospital service for Glenrothes.

They have sent a detailed dossier outlining the case for retaining the service at the town’s hospital to health bosses ahead of next Tuesday’s NHS board meeting which may make a final decision on the service’s future location.

The health authority believes the service would be better provided at the Victoria in Kirkcaldy - but the detailed paper compiled by GAFG chairman and retired doctor Bob Grant outlines “failings that would occur if the Glenrothes OOH service were to be taken away.”

GAFG spokesman Ron Page added: “The arguments so far given by the drivers of the proposed closure are flawed - and convince no one in any of the communities involved.

“At no time - since the rumour of the closure of Fife Institute and its possible move to Kirkcaldy several years ago - has there been such widespread, united and angry opposition in this area - ourselves, community councils, churches and residents groups, Glenrothes Area Committee, MP Lindsay Roy and MSP Tricia Marwick - total opposition!

“What we do wish from this meeting is an enhancement of Fife’s primary care emergency service and not a cutback.

“A new review would suit us, with a new look at consultation, communication and more facts.”
