David will be keeping St Andrews clean and green

Working with the BID and the town’s Environmental Network (StAndEN) David (47) will take forward one of the BID’s priorities - improving the look of the town.

“My priority is to make St Andrews even more pleasing on the eye for businesses and visitors,” David explained on his first day in the job this week. “An attractive town encourages visitors to come back and so benefits the businesses in the town.”

Clean and Green was one of the main issues identified by the town’s businesses when the BID steering group researched priorities for the town.

Now, Jane Kell from StAndEN explained, David will be having a look at the environmental issues in St Andrews, but, she stressed, that doesn’t mean taking over services provided by Fife Council.

“We are looking at working with businesses to reduce waste and set up better services. We hope to reduce costs to businesses through waste reduction - it could be a win, win situation for them - reduced costs and improved custom,” she said.

David will also be working with youngsters in the town through Fife Council’s employability scheme, offering work experience and training.

BID members will be able to hear more about Clean and Green at an open meeting next month, when BID manager Rhonda McCrimmon will be briefing on the BID’s progress.
