A KIRKCALDY couple have been celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.
Danny and Sze Wong of Barnton Road married in December 1951 in the remote Chinese village of Leung Sheun Wan after meeting earlier that year in Kowloon City.
Danny and his business partners were the first Chinese people to come to Kirkcaldy when he arrived in 1963, opening the town’s first ever Chinese restaurant, the Sun Do next to the Port Brae pub. Sze travelled back and forth for a few years before coming to Kirkcaldy for good in 1970.
After retiring in the mid-80s Danny was elected to the Racial Equality Council and has been chairman ever since.
Danny and Sze were joined at their anniversary party in the family restaurant, New Maxims, by their five children, Cecilia, Tom, Fiona, Mandy and Henry, and it was a double celebration as it was also Danny’s 81st birthday on the day.
Their daughter Fiona said: “It has been a hard and difficult life for both mum and dad.
‘‘To make sure they have a long and happy life as well as happy marriage, it is the children and grandchildren’s duty and responsibility to make sure of their well-being.
“Now it’s time for them to relax and enjoy all the things they have worked for.”
