It was a chilly charge into the sea on New Year’s Day for around 75 men, women and children who took part in St Andrews’ third annual Loony Dook.
Wearing outfits as diverse as kilts and swimming trunks, wetsuits and onesies, superhero costumes and party frocks, the intrepid dookers dived in to the chilly north sea on Friday morning as the mercury hovered at around nine degrees on the thermometer.
Members of STAART - St Andrews Adventure Running Club - were keen starters in the event, leading the sprint in - and out of - the water.
Describing the dip as “a pretty silly thing”, event organizer Tone Brennan said: “It’s really amazing that so many people are keen to get up early on new year’s day, get freezing cold and jump in the sea in the name of getting the year off to an exciting and invigorating start.”
Dookers received prizes donated by local businesses Hepburns Nail Lounge and Rascals Bar before retiring to The New Inn, another supporter of the event, for hot drinks, breakfast and a wee dram.
