An investigation has begun by NHS Fife after a Glenrothes mum gave birth to her baby on an icy pavement, reports, NEIL HENDERSON

As temperatures plummeted to -4C, Lisa McNeil, 25, was forced to rely on her mum, Karen Barnes to help deliver baby Jackson outside the new £170 million maternity wing at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

Lisa said of her ordeal: “I knew I was close to giving birth as the contractions were very close, but when we couldn’t get into the hospital it turned into nightmare.

“My partner Ryan was ringing the buzzer and frantically tying to get help as I was on all fours on the pavement screaming in agony.

“Eventually I realised I just had to push and by the time help arrived I’d already given birth in full view of other people also trying to get into the hospital.”
